How to host a virtual 420 party in 4 simple steps!

4/20 is here! Technically the entire month of April 2020 is considered 4/20, but we’re talking about Monday, April 20th – a day internationally devoted to celebrating cannabis culture, smoking cannabis and use of all cannabis products. And even though (sadly) no public or physical gatherings can take place this year to celebrate cannabis prohibition we still encourage you to revel in the day by enjoying your favourite cannabis from the comfort of home, around 4:20 p.m.

Put your party hat on and use this simple, four-step solution to host the ultimate virtual 420 party!

Step 1: Choose your location

We mean your virtual location, of course. Thanks to the technology wizards out there, you’re still able to hit up all your cannabis-loving buddies for a social-distance appropriate celebration.  Give these apps a try:

House party:

To host or join a party, all you need to do is download the House Party app (available on ios, android, macOS and chrome), add friends your friends and then use the plus button to invite friends into your party.

Group FaceTime:

Yes, we said group. We had no idea you could get up to 32 people in one FaceTime until recently. If you already have group chats on the go, you can add the entire group in the click of one button. Easy, peasy.

Meet up on Zoom:

Yes, it’s a video conferencing site – but it can also double as a virtual hangout location for up to 100 people! You could even host a digital cannabis conference with your friends and encourage them extend the invite to other cannabis fans!

Step 2: Make a guest-list and set the date

First, choose a date and time to host your party (we suggest Monday, April 20 at 4:20 p.m., but you can do any time that works). Next, compile a list of your favourite cannabis connoisseurs and then send out the invites via group text, e-mail or calendar invite. Just make sure you include a link to the event, so they can download the app your using ahead of time and easily join when party time comes.

Step 3: Plan the menu

What’s a party (let alone a quarantine party) without snacks? This seems like a perfect time to take up a new skill, like baking. Use it as a way to help stave off cabin fever, or as an opportunity to make some delicious “baked goods” (pun intended) for the party and encourage your virtual guests to do the same.

If you’re a newbie to baking you own edible goodies, here’s a quick crash course to help you out:

Step 1: Pick up some of your favourite sativa, indica or hybrid cannabis buds.

For baking – we recommend BC Sungrown Blue Dream (Tantulus Labs) for sativa, Ease (Tokyo Smoke) for indica or Banana Split (Aurora) for a hybrid; all available at Mountain View Cannabis.

Step 2: Make cannabis infused butter.

  1. Spread cannabis out on a cookie sheet and cover. Bake at 220 degrees for 20-30 mins, which will release the THC in the cannabis.
  2. Add 2 cups of butter and 1 cup of water to a saucepan and heat on low until the better is melted. Don’t skip the water – it keeps the butter from burning.
  3. Once baked, add cannabis to melted butter on low heat and stir once every half hour, for 3 hours.
  4. Strain butter into a bowl through a cheese cloth to get rid of cannabis leaf sediment.
  5. Put butter in refrigerator until it hardens, allowing water and butter to separate.
  6. Use butter in any baked good you decide to make.

*Pro tip: Make sure you consume your treats slowly. Edibles have to digest before you’ll feel the effects of the cannabis, so wait at least an hour before eating more.

Step 4: Have a GREAT time!

We know social-distancing and staying home isn’t ideal, but let’s make the most out of it and celebrate what 420 is really about!

If you’re running low on your cannabis products, Mountain View Cannabis is still open during the COVID-19 pandemic. To help limit in-person interaction, we suggest ordering online and reserving your products before coming to see us.

Stay safe and be sure to tag @mvc_ab on Instagram or Facebook so we can check out your 420 festivities!

Happy 420!

*We encourage everyone to stay home as much as possible and help flatten the curve.
